JAPANEEZY

Privacy Policy

EFFECTIVE SEPTEMBER 25, 2026 APPLIES TO JAPANEEZY V2 AND LATER

Plain-language summary

We use your account and learning data to provide and personalize Japanese study features.

The free version uses Google ads. Apple or Google handles payments, and RevenueCat helps manage purchases.

On iOS we ask before using your device advertising identifier for personalized ads. The app works the same whichever you choose, and you can change it later.

When you ask us to generate learning material, we process the text, topic, photo, or document you provide.

We record how the app is used (for example screens viewed, sessions finished, paywall views) against your account ID, never your email or text you type, to understand and improve Japaneezy. These records are kept for up to 730 days.

You can review available advertising choices and request account deletion. The sections below explain how.

Japaneezy is operated by Valentyna Polienova, Ukraine (referred to as “Japaneezy,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). This Privacy Policy explains what information the Japaneezy mobile application and related services collect, how it is used and shared, how long it is kept, and the choices available to you.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Account and sign-in information

When you create or access an account through Google or Apple, we may process:

  • your name, when provided by Google or Apple;
  • your email address, including an Apple private relay address when you use Hide My Email;
  • a unique identifier associated with your Google or Apple account;
  • your Japaneezy account identifier and authentication status; and
  • information required to create, maintain, and secure the account.

Japaneezy supports Sign in with Apple and Google Sign-In. We do not provide email-and-password accounts.

1.2 Learning, profile, and usage data

We process information about your use of Japaneezy learning features, including:

  • known, liked, or saved kanji, words, and word packs;
  • JLPT level, quiz, study, notification, appearance, and other preferences;
  • quiz and study answers, results, sessions, mistakes, and history;
  • XP, streaks, achievements, learning progress, and statistics;
  • unlocked or purchased word packs and other eligible content;
  • Koi earned or spent through learning activities or purchases; and
  • feature interactions needed to provide, synchronize, secure, and improve the service.

This information is associated with your account and stored on our backend so Japaneezy can personalize learning and synchronize supported devices.

1.3 Text, topics, searches, photos, and documents you provide

When you use word-pack generation, OCR, paste, import, or autocomplete features, we process the content you choose to provide. This can include pasted text, a topic or prompt, search and autocomplete queries, a photo captured with the camera, an existing photo selected through the system picker, or a document selected through the system file picker. We also process the file name, format, and related technical metadata needed to accept the upload.

Japaneezy does not browse or collect your photo library or files generally. Only the specific item you select or capture is uploaded. The content is sent to Japaneezy backend services to extract text, generate or suggest vocabulary, and return the result you requested. Generated results and word packs you choose to save are associated with your account.

If an external AI or OCR provider will receive personal data from the selected content, Japaneezy will identify that provider and request your explicit permission before the transfer. Do not submit confidential, sensitive, or third-party content unless you have the right to use it.

1.4 Koi wallet and transaction information

Koi are limited-use virtual credits that may be earned through eligible learning activities or purchased through Apple or Google. We may process:

  • your Koi balance and amounts earned or spent;
  • the activity, content, or purchase associated with a Koi transaction;
  • transaction dates, amounts, types, identifiers, statuses, refunds, reversals, and corrections; and
  • technical information needed to prevent duplicate, fraudulent, or incorrect transactions.

Koi are associated with your Japaneezy account and cannot be withdrawn or redeemed for cash.

1.5 Subscription and purchase information

Japaneezy may offer a Pro subscription and consumable Koi purchases through Apple StoreKit or Google Play Billing. Apple or Google processes your payment method and complete payment-card details. Japaneezy does not directly receive or store full payment-card information.

Japaneezy and RevenueCat may receive and process:

  • your linked Japaneezy app user identifier;
  • the product, offering, and platform through which it was purchased;
  • transaction identifiers, purchase tokens, receipts, or signed transaction information;
  • purchase date, amount, currency, and status;
  • subscription status, renewal, expiration, cancellation, grace period, billing retry, refund, or revocation information; and
  • information needed to validate, restore, synchronize, and grant the corresponding entitlement or Koi balance.

1.6 Advertising and ad-related information

The free version may display advertisements supplied by Google AdMob. Depending on the screen and feature, Japaneezy uses:

  • interstitial advertisements between eligible quiz sessions;
  • rewarded advertisements that a user may choose to watch to revive or continue an eligible quiz run;
  • native advertisements displayed within kanji or word-pack content; and
  • banner advertisements displayed during eligible study sessions.

AdMob and related technologies may automatically process device and app information, operating-system and app versions, IP address and approximate location inferred from it, advertising interactions such as impressions and clicks, diagnostics and performance information, identifiers available to the advertising SDK, and fraud, abuse, invalid-traffic, and security signals. The exact processing depends on your platform, region, consent choices, device settings, and Google configuration.

Japaneezy does not provide AdMob with your email address, Apple or Google sign-in identity, saved vocabulary, quiz answers, Koi balance, uploaded content, or learning progress for ad selection. Japaneezy currently uses Google demand and does not integrate third-party ad mediation networks.

1.7 Advertising consent and iOS tracking

Japaneezy uses Google User Messaging Platform to request and manage advertising consent where required. Consent choices may determine whether Google may use personal data for personalized advertising or must serve limited or non-personalized advertising. Where required, a Privacy options entry in Profile or Settings lets you review eligible choices.

On iOS, Japaneezy asks for your permission to use the device advertising identifier (the Identifier for Advertisers) through Apple’s App Tracking Transparency framework. If you allow it, Google AdMob and its advertising partners may use that identifier to personalize and measure the advertisements you see, including across apps and websites owned by other companies. Apple treats this as tracking, and the App Store privacy label identifies the device identifier and advertising data used for it.

Allowing or declining does not change how Japaneezy works: every learning feature, reward, and Koi amount is identical either way, and nothing in the app is given or withheld for your answer. Declining does not remove advertisements — they become limited or non-personalized. You can change your answer at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking, or through the advertising privacy options in Japaneezy Profile or Settings. Android has no equivalent system prompt; advertising-identifier choices there are available through your device and Google account settings, and the consent interface described above applies where required.

1.8 Push-notification data

If you enable push notifications, we process a device or push-notification token and related technical information through Firebase Cloud Messaging. The token is registered to your account so notifications can be delivered and can be removed when you sign out, disable the feature, or delete the account, subject to technical and retention limits.

1.9 Crash diagnostics, device information, and bug reports

Firebase Crashlytics collects crash and diagnostic information in release builds, including app and operating-system versions, device model, crash traces, error logs, technical identifiers, performance information, and information about the app state when an error occurred. For signed-in users, Japaneezy assigns the Japaneezy account user ID to Crashlytics so reports can be investigated across related events.

If you voluntarily submit a bug report, we process the report text and a technical snapshot that may include device model, platform, app version, account state, selected settings, and feature state relevant to the problem. Review the report before sending it and do not include unnecessary sensitive information.

1.10 Product analytics

Japaneezy records in-app usage events to understand how the app is used and to improve it. These include:

  • app opens and screens viewed;
  • paywall views, purchase attempts, advertisements shown, and shares;
  • the start and outcome of quiz, story, and study sessions (for example answers correct and incorrect, hearts lost, and revives used);
  • Koi earned and spent, word packs created, subscription changes, and use of AI-backed features; and
  • your platform (iOS or Android), the app version, and your subscription tier.

Each event is linked to your Japaneezy account identifier. It is never linked to your email address, and it never contains text you type, uploaded content, or the words in your word packs. Events are stored in Google Cloud (Cloud Logging and BigQuery) and are used only by Japaneezy for aggregate analysis. They are not shared with advertising providers or used for ad selection.

1.11 Information we do not intentionally collect

Japaneezy does not intentionally collect precise location, contacts, health data, full payment-card information, or private communications unrelated to support or a feature you deliberately use. We do not access your photo library or document storage broadly; Section 1.3 explains the limited processing of an item you choose to upload.

2. How We Use Information

We use information to:

  • authenticate users and create, maintain, and secure accounts;
  • provide and personalize Japanese-learning content, quizzes, study sessions, and progress;
  • generate word packs, perform requested OCR or text processing, and return autocomplete suggestions;
  • save and synchronize preferences, learning data, and eligible content;
  • operate Koi balances and transaction histories;
  • process, validate, restore, and synchronize purchases and subscriptions;
  • display, deliver, measure, limit, and secure advertisements;
  • manage advertising consent choices and suppress standard ads for active Pro users;
  • deliver notifications that users have enabled;
  • detect, investigate, and fix crashes, bugs, and technical problems;
  • understand how the app is used, measure the effect of changes, and improve features, content, and difficulty (product analytics, Section 1.10);
  • prevent fraud, abuse, duplicate transactions, invalid traffic, and unauthorized access;
  • respond to support, privacy, and deletion requests; and
  • comply with law and protect our users, services, and legal rights.

3. Legal Grounds for Processing

3.1 Performance of a contract

We process information necessary to provide Japaneezy and its requested features, including account access, learning progress, generated content, purchased content, Koi accounting, subscription benefits, and support.

3.2 Legitimate interests

Where permitted by law, we process information for legitimate interests in operating, securing, improving, and supporting Japaneezy; preventing fraud, abuse, duplicate transactions, and invalid traffic; resolving technical problems; and displaying and measuring advertising. We consider the impact on users and apply safeguards where required.

Product analytics (Section 1.10) is processed on the basis of our legitimate interest in understanding how Japaneezy is used and improving it. It is first-party: the events are collected and analysed only by Japaneezy, are linked to your account identifier rather than your email address, contain no text you type, and are not used for advertising. You may object to this processing by contacting us (Section 10).

3.3 Consent

We rely on consent where applicable, including for notifications, advertising technologies or personalized advertising, protected-resource access, and transfers of personal data to an identified third-party AI provider. You may withdraw or change eligible consent through the app, device settings, privacy controls, or by contacting us. Withdrawal does not affect processing that occurred lawfully before withdrawal.

3.4 Legal obligations

We may process or retain information to comply with law, lawful requests, tax or accounting obligations, consumer requests, or the establishment, exercise, or defense of legal claims.

4. Your Advertising and Device Choices

Free users may receive ads; active Pro users should not receive Japaneezy standard in-app ads. Where required, Google UMP presents an advertising privacy or consent interface before Japaneezy requests ads. Eligible users can reopen Privacy options from Profile or Settings. Declining optional personalized-ad processing does not necessarily remove advertisements and may result in limited or non-personalized ads.

On iOS, the App Tracking Transparency permission described in Section 1.7 can be changed at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking. Your answer does not affect how Japaneezy works or what it gives you.

You can also control notifications and protected-resource permissions through device settings. Photo and document access occurs through user-initiated camera or system-picker actions.

5. Technologies and Service Providers

Japaneezy uses the following providers and technologies. Their processing is limited to the purposes described here and governed by applicable agreements and privacy terms.

Google Firebase Authentication
Account identifiers, name, email, and authentication data for account access and identity management.
Google Firebase Crashlytics
Account user ID, crash traces, logs, device and app information, and diagnostics for stability, troubleshooting, and security.

Google Cloud Logging and BigQuery
Storage and aggregate analysis of product-analytics events linked to the Japaneezy account identifier (Section 1.10).
Google AdMob
Ad delivery and measurement, consent-aware configuration, diagnostics, security, abuse detection, and fraud prevention.
Google User Messaging Platform
Advertising consent, privacy choices, and consent signals where required.
Google Sign-In and Sign in with Apple
Authentication through the account selected by the user.
RevenueCat
Linked app user ID, product and transaction identifiers, receipts, purchase history, subscription status, and entitlements for purchase processing, validation, restore, fraud prevention, and subscription management.
Apple StoreKit, App Store, and Google Play Billing
Purchase processing, verification, refunds, restoration, and store-account subscription management.
Japaneezy backend services
Application logic, authentication verification, content generation, OCR and text processing, autocomplete, account deletion, Koi accounting, purchase verification, entitlement management, and communication with the app.
Feature-specific AI or OCR processors
Only when enabled and disclosed in the relevant feature: user-selected text, topic, photo, or document content needed to perform the requested generation or extraction. The app will identify the recipient and request explicit permission before sending personal data to an external AI provider.

We require service providers that receive user data to protect it to the same or an equivalent standard as stated in this policy and required by applicable platform rules and law. Provider policies include Google at policies.google.com/privacy, Apple at apple.com/legal/privacy, and RevenueCat at revenuecat.com/privacy.

6. Sharing and Disclosure

We may disclose information:

  • to the service providers listed above where necessary to operate Japaneezy and provide the feature you request;
  • to Apple, Google, and RevenueCat where needed to process, validate, restore, refund, synchronize, or investigate a purchase;
  • to Google AdMob to request, display, secure, and measure advertising under applicable consent choices;
  • to an identified AI or OCR provider only after any disclosure and explicit permission required for the transfer;
  • when required by law, regulation, legal process, or a valid governmental request;
  • when reasonably necessary to protect users, prevent fraud or abuse, enforce rights, or defend legal claims; and
  • in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, sale of assets, or similar transaction, subject to appropriate safeguards and notice where required.

We do not sell personal information for money. Depending on local law and Google advertising configuration, disclosure of certain device or advertising data for personalized advertising may be treated as “sharing” or targeted advertising, and on iOS as tracking where you have allowed it. Eligible users can use Privacy options or device settings to exercise applicable opt-out choices. We do not provide account identity, email address, learning progress, quiz answers, Koi wallet information, or uploaded content to advertising providers for ad selection.

7. Data Retention and Account Deletion

We retain account information, saved learning data, word packs, Koi records, purchase records, and subscription-entitlement information while your account remains active and as needed to provide the service. User-selected source files and text used for generation are retained only for the time reasonably needed to process the request, secure and troubleshoot the feature, and meet legal obligations; generated results you save remain with your account.

Product-analytics events (Section 1.10) are retained for up to 730 days from the day they are recorded. They cannot be deleted individually, so after you delete your account, your events are not removed immediately; they expire when that period ends. They are not used to recreate or identify the deleted account.

Diagnostic data is retained according to Firebase Crashlytics settings and as needed to investigate active issues. Purchase, receipt, subscription, and entitlement records may be retained by Apple, Google, RevenueCat, and Japaneezy for transaction validation, accounting, tax, fraud prevention, disputes, and legal obligations. Backups may retain residual copies until overwritten through the ordinary backup cycle.

You can request deletion through the in-app Delete Account function or by emailing valentynapolienova@gmail.com. After verification, Japaneezy deletes or de-identifies the account and associated active-system data, including learning data, saved content, Koi balance, and registered device tokens, except limited records that must be retained for the purposes above. We also initiate or support deletion or unlinking with applicable processors where required and technically available.

Information retained after deletion is restricted to the purpose requiring retention and is not used to recreate the account. Deleting the app does not delete your account. Deleting your Japaneezy account does not automatically cancel an Apple App Store or Google Play subscription; cancel it separately through the store account used for purchase.

8. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information. Measures may include authenticated access, encrypted network transport, access controls, transaction validation, duplicate-transaction prevention, and monitoring for unauthorized or fraudulent activity. No storage or transmission system is completely secure, so absolute security cannot be guaranteed.

9. International Data Transfers

Japaneezy is available internationally. Information may be processed in Ukraine and in other countries where Google, Apple, RevenueCat, and other providers operate. Those countries may have different privacy laws. Where required, we rely on appropriate contractual, organizational, and legal safeguards, which may include adequacy decisions and standard contractual clauses. Contact us to request additional information about applicable safeguards.

10. Your Privacy Rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights to request access to, correction or deletion of, restriction of, objection to, or a portable copy of your personal information; to withdraw consent; to opt out of certain targeted advertising or sharing; and to complain to a competent data-protection authority.

To exercise a right, email valentynapolienova@gmail.com. We may verify your identity before completing a request. Requests may be limited where retaining or processing information is required by law or necessary to protect security, legal rights, or the rights of others. Advertising and device choices may also be available through Japaneezy Profile or Settings, your device settings, or your Google account settings.

11. Children

Japaneezy is a general-audience language-learning application and is not specifically directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from a child in violation of applicable law. Where local law requires parental or guardian consent for a child to use an online service, the child may use Japaneezy only with that consent.

A parent or guardian who believes a child provided personal information without required consent may contact us to request deletion. Advertising may be subject to platform, regional, age-related, and advertising-provider restrictions. We do not knowingly provide account, learning-profile, or uploaded-content information to AdMob for selecting advertisements directed to children.

12. Third-Party Policies

Some Japaneezy features are also subject to the terms and privacy policies of Google, Firebase, AdMob, Google Play, Apple, the App Store, RevenueCat, and any feature-specific processor identified to you. Japaneezy does not control those providers’ independent processing. This policy describes Japaneezy’s use of those services and the protections we require where they process information on our behalf.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy when Japaneezy, our technologies, service providers, business practices, or legal requirements change. The revised version will show a new effective date. For material changes, we may also provide notice through Japaneezy or another appropriate channel. Where consent is required for new processing, we will request it separately rather than relying solely on publication of an updated policy.
